ORBEA AND SCOTT BIKES

Bicycles have always been popular because of its ability to get easy transportation even without the expensive investment for a car and the continuous cash outlay for gasoline. It has been around as early as the 15th hundreds when individuals needed a way to get around small geographic locations and continues up to today as one of the most popular methods for transportation. Also, bicycles have gained recent popularity because of the gaining interest of environmental awareness of global warming because it is one form of transportation where there is absolutely no form of pollution being generated. And although bicycles require some form of effort in order to run, it still maintains such popularity today.

A derivative of the bicycle is the mountain bike, designed for going up mountains, entering dirt trails, or travelling in unpaid environments. Traditional bicycles have not been designed for such rough terrain and this is where the mountain bike comes in. Today, mountain bikes have become as much as a hobby as a tool for transportation and looking at the street or any other location, one would see that mountain bikes have gained popularity in the masses.

Two of the most popular brands of mountain bikes are made by Scott USA and Orbea. Scott is a Swiss company that produces and experts in the manufacturing of bicycles and other sportswear. As early as 1958, an engineer skier invented a ski pole which was different from the traditional bamboo or steel used by skiers because it was made of aluminium. After the success of such a product, in 1970, the first protection goggles where made by the company and it was in 1986 when its first mountain bike was produced. The company is popular around the mountain biking community because it continues to produce high-quality mountain bikes and was the first one to integrate the suspended for mechanism in the bicycles which eventually led to the company making the first fully suspended mountain bike. In 2002, it was one of their bikes which won the Tour de France. Although the name implies that the company focuses its market in the United States, it is in fact mainly addressing the mountain bike community in Europe although it remains a large presence in mountain bike manufacturing in the United States.

Orbea, on the other hand, is another bicycle manufacturer which is based in Spain and started out, interestingly, as a gunmaker, and shifted only its business to the production of racing bicycles in 1930. What makes the company so popular in mountain biking circles is that it produces a range of high and carbon fiber designs. This implies that the mountain bikes which the company produces are indeed durable and high quality in nature because of the material used in the production process. It is also popular for its made-to-order service which means that consumers and future customers choose a frame for the bicycle and also hand pick which of the other products they would integrate into their bikes.

Only recently, the bike made by the company was written by Julien Absalon and got the gold medal for cycling in the 2008 Olympics further boosting its popularity.
